Heavenly by Jennifer Laurens

I met someone who changed everything. Matthias. My autistic sister’s guardian angel. Honest. Inspiring. Funny. Hot. And immortal. That was the problem. What could I do? I did what any other girl would do – I fell in love with him.

Heavenly is the first book in a new YA trilogy from Jennifer Laurens, bringing together a troubled American teenager, and her young sister’s guardian angel.

Whilst on the surface it looks like a typical teen romance, there is much more to be found. Zoe comes from a family with many issues, including a disabled young sister, and an older brother with addictions. As she struggles with both this, and her own problems, Matthias seems to offer her the peace she needs.

As the book progresses however, it takes on a slightly darker tone, building towards an unexpected ending. There are some interesting experiences and issues explored in Heavenly, and I look forward to seeing where Jennifer plans to take the story in the second book, Penitence.
