Earlier in the year I was sent an early copy of The String Diaries. As it’s a big book, and the publication date was some time off, I took a peek at the beginning, thinking I could read it over a few weeks. Instead, I found myself absolutely gripped, and it took just a few days. It became one of my favourite books so far this year, and I will be recommending it to lots of people!

Deity by Steven Dunne – Review and Giveaway

Deity is the 3rd book in The Brook Chronicles, but it’s certainly possible to read it as a stand-alone, as I did. I will be going back and picking up the 1st book, because I want to know more, but this works just fine as a stand alone.

In Deity, two separate crimes are investigated – the first starts when two bodies are found, both with internal organs removed, and the second surrounds the disappearance of four students. Al signs point to the fact that these four students have committed suicide, but until their bodies can be found, no one is sure what is really going on – especially as a website entitled ‘Deity’ seems to be involved.

The main detective is Damen Brooks, who we learn is haunted by previous cases, and seems close to a breakdown himself. It’s certainly something I’ve seen before in crime books, but there was something about Damen which made him appear very human, and very real. despite his past and his issues, he cares very much about his work, and his cases, and as I’ve said, I will picking up the earlier books to learn more about him.

It has all the usual aspects of a crime novel, including the twists and turns, and it’s paced well – it’s a cliché, but it’s a page turner! 🙂

Vampire Apocalypse Give Away from Derek Gunn

A year ago I reviewed the first of Derek Gunn’s Vampire Apocalypse books.. A World Torn Asunder. I then recieved book 2, Descent into Chaos, which I was also happy to review.

In a time where everyone seems obssessed with Twilight, Derek offers something a little different.. this time the vampires really are the baddies, and the stories are about the war between vampire, thrall and human.. with many bloody battles!
